reative’s Zen Style M300 is a
compact and easy to use music
player, with a display that is
slightly larger than that of the iPod Nano.
It is a great little player, and serves as
a cheaper alternative to the Nano. The
M300 is technically a portable media
player, with its 1.45-inch TFT display
and support for transcoded SMV video,
but the tiny screen is not of the greatest
quality, so it isn’t ideal for video playback.
As an audio player, the M300 supports
MP3, WMA, WAV and AAX fi le formats
and also works with Audible audio books.
Where the M300 has an edge over the
Nano is that it comes with Bluetooth
support for wireless headphones, built-in
memory of 4 GB, 8 GB or 16 GB, which
is further expandable via microSD card,
and individual touch-sensitive buttons.
While the individual touch buttons make
it easier to use than the Nano, they are
not very sensitive and using them takes
a little getting used to. It also packs
in FM radio and a built-in microphone
for voice recording. Creative claims
that the M300 can provide 20 hours of
battery life. Also, they make navigating
through folders a little harder than on
the Nano. The player comes in four
di erent colors and there is also a slightly
cheaper variant called the M100 for
those that do not want Bluetooth.

he C2 isn’t exactly a slim PMP, but
while the design isn’t extraordinary,
the build quality is top-notch. The
bundled earphones aren’t in-ear, but are
capable of dishing out clear sound. The
interface operates smoothly, but the
2.6-inch, 320 x 240 pixel screen isn’t too
impressive. Navigation between menus
is fl uid and despite being a resistive
touchscreen, it works well. However, the
navigation buttons are really tiny and not
very responsive. Also, once you dump
some more media onto the player, it takes
a too long to update the database. The
C2 supports a wide range of formats,
including MP3, WMA, OGG, APE and
FLAC. Since this is primarily an audio
player, video support (AVI, ASF, WMV)
isn’t as great. The JetE ect 3.0 settings
come with 35 presets and 4 user presets,
but even without them, audio quality is
brilliant. The highs aare a bit faint, but
the mids and lows are great. The bass
feels awesome with just the right level of
boom. Features like bookmarks, favorites,
and A-B Loop enhance the experience.
The video quality doesn’t quite match
up, but it does play AVI and WMV fi les
satisfactorily, as long as they’re short
clips. FM plays quite clearly too. With
audio playback, the battery lasted about
35 hours, which is not bad at all. Priced
at Rs 6,725 for the 4 GB version, the
C2 o ers sublime audio performance
that outweighs its minor quirks.
